Who says God doesn't have a sense of humour? Well, I'm about to share with you something that made us laugh! It must be clear now that I believe God answers prayers and pours out His miracles upon us. At this point in my journey I had seen and experienced so many. But THIS made my husband and I chuckle!
Let me paint the setting for you...
I can't move. I'm still confined to my hospital bed. I can now move my arms only about 6-8 inches up from the bed. So my husband and I? We prayed. I wanted so desperately to move my legs! They got so hot and sweaty pasted against the bed sheet day in and day out.
So we prayed and we believed. We prayed, "Jesus allow Lyndsey to move her legs, we thank you, in Jesus name."
And then...
It happened...
I was able to reach my arms up above my head!!!
Not my arms because we don't have a picture from that day
Oh how we laughed! We prayed for my legs to move and my arms moved instead! We prayed to see a miracle that day, in that moment and we did! Just not the miracle we thought we were going to see. We prayed for my legs and I was able to thrust my arms up in the air over my head within seconds of that prayer! So yes, I do think Jesus has a sense of humour! 😂 🤣
Just before this prayer I couldn't move my arms more than a few inches. So this one we chalked up as a win, an answer to a prayer and a miracle! Slowly the Lord was restoring my strength and my muscles.
Now, we did see my legs move. So He still answered our actual prayer too! It just didn't happen immediately. About 4 days later I had just finished my breakfast and was waiting for my dad to show up for his daily visit. They took away my tray and all of a sudden I was able to move my leg up and down. I could slide my heal in along the bed and bend my knee up towards me. What an accomplishment! I promptly grabbed my phone and took a video of my legs moving and sent it to my husband.
And. We. Rejoiced!
And if you are skeptical as to whether this truly was the Lord answering our prayer or not, I am going to tell you WHY I believe He did and why I give all the glory to Him:
Before we prayed for my legs to move, I could not move them at all. I mean nothing, nada. In fact, my legs would frequently slide apart as they were stretched out straight before me in bed. It was very very frustrating! Reason being, I was unable to slide my legs back into a comfortable position. I couldn't pull my legs up even an inch by myself. I had to constantly wait for help to reposition my legs. It became very annoying. Not to mention when family, friends or staff did reposition my legs back to their "regular" resting position it was extremely painful every time they touched my ankles to move my legs.
Sooo...
You can see why I know the Lord answered our prayers. You don't regain muscle memory that quickly after all your muscles have completely atrophied! It's usually a constant, consistent progress worked through with physiotherapy. So, where others may be skeptical, I am not.
And that my friends is why I think Jesus has a sense of humour! And why this wasn't just another miracle I had the pleasure of witnessing, but one that made me laugh. And one that brought me happiness and joy. I was not angry or upset when we prayed for my legs and my arms moved instead. I was overcome with joy, as was my husband. Any miracle the Lord decides to bestow upon me is a reason to rejoice!
So amen, and praise the Lord! For He is great all the days, and all the days He is great!
Psalm 77:14
